gold

all that's gold
doesn't always glitter
in fact, sometimes
it's the fool's gold
that glitters the brightest
while the real gold
-the treasure-
lies unnoticed
besides
the fool's gold
- the fake-
so
why do we go for
what's the most glittery
instead of
what's the most valuable?
we take what's visible
yet perishable
over what's not
quite so noticeable
but yet imperishable
just for the looks
the glitter
let's go back
to the real thing
the real gold
the real treasure
that may not always
glitter
but that's always
gold

I'm not exactly sure why I felt like God was prompting me to post this poem today. It's one of my recent favorites, yet it's not one of my best ones. I don't particularly like the way it looks or flows. Yet, I think that it's an interesting example of certain situations in life. We don't like how they're flowing or how they look, yet God has a plan to use them to mold our lives into what He wants. I've been struggling with this lately, so perhaps the only reason for posting this was to see my own words actually typed out somewhere. But I hope that's not the only reason. I hope that someone else will be blessed just a little by the reminder to chase after the real "gold" in life- and to remember that you're worth more than gold to the One who made you. <3

  7. I love this poem, Emily. I love how you twisted the cliché. "All that glitters is not gold." Thanks for inspiring me to get back into poetry.
