love isn't always a feeling.
it's more of an action,
becuase love isn't sometimes-
it's for always,
and feelings only last so long
before they die away.
real love isn't like that;
it's an ongoing sacrifice
-and sometimes it hurts-
but it's worth it if it's real.
so don't rely on feelings
as your confirmation about love.
becuase while feelings will fade,
real love never fails.

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. // John 15:13
....Love never fails... // 1 Corinthians 13:8a
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. // Romans 5:8
This is beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement, Grey Marie!
DeleteThis was a great post, Emily, and a very good message. :)As a side note, I follow an email thing where they send Christian quotes every day, and today's quote was:
ReplyDeleteChrist is put forward as the example of how we should love, and that is the most effective argument. How great was Christ’s love? What kind of love was his? Christ voluntarily gave himself up to death because of his great love for us—the greatest love anyone could have, in fact. The apostle asks us to imitate him.
– Martin Bucer –
Those two things go together very well, and are a wonderful message!! Thanks for sharing!
Christ's example of love really was the ultimate, greatest love ever. That is a great quote- thanks for sharing it!
DeleteEmily, I am hosting a email series on falling in love with Jesus again. I was wondering if I could include your poem into my series. I would link to this post, so you will be credited.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Thanks for asking, Libby! That would be just fine, and I'm honored you want to include my poem. Thanks for reading!
DeleteBeautiful (and sometimes hard) truth in beautiful writing. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jordy!
DeleteMmm, so true. real love isn't like that; it's an ongoing sacrifice. It isn't going to be easy or comfortable. But where He calls, He makes a way! Thanks for sharing, Emily - a convicting piece of poetry.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Jessica! Where He calls, He does make a way- love that! Thanks for the thought.
DeleteBeautiful! God's love is a sacrificial true love that lasts always and forever. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says that three things remain; faith, hope and love. God is love. He always remains.
