Time~ A Poem

Time

Time flies by
Sometimes
When we are glad
And have no cares
The sun is bright
When life
Is golden and right
Up to the brim

Time creeps by
Sometimes
When we are lost
Afraid and scared
Of what comes next
When life is bent and broke
Beyond repair

Time is not
Sometimes
It is forever until
The end of all time
When the Master comes
When life is done and over
As we know it now

Time stopped
That time
On the cross
When the Master of time
Gave Himself up
When life
Was ended and begun
His for ours; old for new

Time is now
But sometime
It will be gone
Judged by the Master
Who created yet is not tied by time
When lives
Are condemned
Or redeemed forever-
In His time

So, what you just read was my first attempt at writing a blank verse poem (meaning one that doesn't rhyme). And let me tell you, those are much harder to write than the regular kind! Don't you agree? *waves hand wildly*  I'm not sure where the idea came from, but I randomly thought up with the entire poem the other day (which is really rare). Normally it takes me days to finish a poem! Anyway, I thought you wonderful people might like to read it, and maybe I'll keep practicing and turn out a better one in the future. ;)
I know this post is rather short, but I'll see you back on Tuesday with another book review! Oh, and make sure to check out this awesome giveaway from Lindsay at Books for Christian Girls. She's giving away 10 books!!
Thanks for reading!

//Emily

What did you think of my attempt at a blank verse poem? Do you like to write poetry? If so, what's your favorite kind to write?

  2. That was awesome, Emily! Usually I don't like free verse poems very much, but you did an amazing job with this one!
I love writing poetry, though I do all rhyming poetry. Thats what feels natural to me. =)

    2. You actually made me curious, so I looked over my past poetry and I found a couple free verse poems in my journal to describe what was going on in my heart. Its really great for that. =)

    3. That's awesome! You're right, it's perfect for that, so perhaps that's why we don't share them as much. But that's great that you've written some before. =)

  4. That is a great poem, Emily! I especially like the fourth verse.

I can imagine it being harder to write free verse poems versus rhyming ones. Great job and thanks for sharing it!

  6. Wow. That was amazing, Emily! :D No, I have never written free verse. I don't write much poetry, but when I do it's usually haiku. Do you ever write in that style?

    1. Thanks so much, Faith! :) Haiku's are fun to write too, although I've not done many of those. I might have to try some more soon. :D

  7. Great poem! I don't write much poetry at all. But when I do, I like the 1/3 and 2/4 line of each stanza to rhyme with one another. The combination of lots of rules (haiku) and very few rules (free verse) in poetry kind of scares me :P I really enjoy reading it, though!

    1. Thank you, Abigayle! Like I said, I never write free verse poems, so it was a new for me. I usually prefer to write ones that rhyme. ;)

  8. I love that poem, Emily!!! I've never tried free verse...I like to have rules when I write poetry. What you wrote is lovely though! I finished reading it thinking, "Emily could NOT have written that professional poem! Could she?" LOL

    Keep writing! ;)
