Monday Musings [1]- Broken

we all
want to be whole
be perfect
be together
we all
are not whole
we're not perfect
we're not together
we say
we're okay
when we're not
 we act
like we're fine
when we're not
it's okay
to not be whole
or perfect
or together
if we were all
already whole
then we'd have
no need
for a Savior
so be honest
and free
and broken
because
we're all broken
and imperfect
and not together
and that's okay
'cause that's how
the Light gets in-
when we're broken

He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. // Psalms 147:3

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. // Psalms 51:17

  1. Gorgeous and beautiful, Emily!!! I think we all hide our brokenness a lot. We try and show everyone through blogging and such that we have it all together...we're on top of everything, but often inside we're just like everyone else...hurting, broken, and scared. Love this poem!

    1. Thank you so much, Hannah! You are so sweet. ♥
Yes, I totally agree. So often, we hide our brokenness and who we truly are inside, and put up a false front for others. We all need to realize that we are not perfect! It's only by His grace that we can be broke, yet beautiful.

Thank you for all your comments, sweet friend! <33

  2. This is stunning, I think we need to reveal the bad parts sometimes, to show everyone that we have some sort of heart, because one part of a soul is the broken part and the other is the nice part. And I agree with Hannah's comment, we sugarcoat our lives with blogging, and maybe that isn't a good thing. Lovely poem <3

    1. Thanks so much, Noor. We often cover up our brokenness and who we truly are inside, and pretend that we have it all together. But we don't, because no one does! I am so thankful for God's amazing grace that makes us whole in His eyes, even if we never are on earth.

Thank you for your kind words! <3

  3. This is awesome!! My mom was actually just talking about this last week. Someone mentioned that even as Christians, when someone asks us how we're doing, we usually just say, 'I'm doing fine,' when really we're not. This person said that he appreciates it when people are honest about how they feel or what's going on in their lives. And, you know what, if we're not open and honest, we just don't really get the help and support that we might need from the Body of Christ or just our friends and family. It's so true that the way the light gets in is through brokenness! There is a Mary Englebreit picture of this that you can see here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/96897829459261398/
Anyway, this is a great poem; thanks for sharing it :)

  7. Amen! Brokenness is something I've been thinking about lately, because it's so uncomfortable, but it's where God works. May we all have the courage to drop the masks, and embrace being broken.. Thanks for sharing, Emily. xx
